VNILLA is a self-taught illustrator from Montréal. In a style reminiscent of Pop Art, VNILLA creates pieces that reflect her perspective of the world in the age of over-production and consumption, and social media. She draws her inspiration from popular culture, vintage commercials and her childhood memories. In her spare time, VNILLA enjoys cooking with a glass of wine in hand, discovering new cafes, and taking long walks in the city.

MARIN BLANC | Visual Artist and Graphic Designer

Marin Blanc is a visual artist from Montreal. Born in Hochelaga during the glory days of Cash City, she later sprawled herself out like a city suburb to discover the ins and outs of Montreal during her studies. Marin is above all passionate. She loves what she loves with style and verve and a hint of folly. It is by spending evenings beneath the cover of night, caressing sheets of paper, that her love expresses itself. Her whimsical collages that sometimes border on racy are distinguished by simplicity of form and a notable balance between rigour and sensitivity. Marin’s favourite subjects are past heartbreaks and imperfection. In fact, an unhappy breakup is what spurred her first creative outburst of collages, which was subsequently featured in solo and group art shows. She is now working as a self-employed graphic designer, primarily in the music and cultural fields. Looking ahead, Marin hopes to lovingly snip away at the faces of celebrities and cultural icons to piece together their portraits.

OJO | Painter

In this place where the misplaced
No longer balks at beauty
In the shady depths of wretchedness.
From a disoriented
Disproportionately cylindrical arm
Oozes the grotesque as if it were the antithesis
Of a concealed look
Of a sole gesture, rapid and
Rife with meaning
The painter is born
The painting is buried.

About the painting:

Homme de son temps observant le chien inconnu (Man of His Time Observing an Unknown Dog) is a work that moves fast but is frozen in time. It invites contemplation and reminiscences about the hot days of summer, in direct contrast to the tension of the brush strokes that are swift, instinctive and euphoric.

RENÉE LAMOTHE | Designer and Visual Artist

After studying experimental filmmaking at Concordia University, Renée Lamothe worked in TV production in Berlin and New York City. In 2015, she completed her master’s degree in graphic and motion design in Barcelona before moving back to Quebec. Her training as a designer soothes her need for rationality so she can give free rein to her imagination and let her artistic side frolic and flourish. Whether it involves striking images or minimalist animations, she draws on her subconscious to create virtual spaces that combine beauty and ugliness, realism and surrealism, and organic and synthetic.

FRANCOIS OLLIVIER | Photographer

François is a self-taught freelance photographer who moved to Montreal from his native southern France in 2011.

He has a knack for bringing meaning to the mundane through his candid or sometimes formally constructed compositions. His work in the advertising field has shown him that anything and everything can be made to look attractive, if that is indeed the goal.

François’ methodology is largely a matter of providence (albeit not the divine kind) and patience. A wanderer at heart, he worships at the altar of the impromptu and lives in a state of eternal awe. His lens constantly challenges our ability to understand what surrounds us or, rather, what it is that remains in the world around us. His work prompts us to reflect on and re-examine our relationship with the fickle friend that is time.

Shooting in black and white lets him look at the world from a unique perspective – and the developed pictures confirm what he had envisioned in his head. “The fact that you can’t see right away what you’ve captured with a film camera is very exciting for me.” Clearly, the results are worth the wait.
